Wasly vs YNAB: a budgeting method, or a household plan?

YNAB is as much a method as an app. You give every dollar a job, and the app is built around doing that each month. Wasly is lighter and aimed at a slightly different problem, so the comparison comes down to how much budgeting you want to do.

Where YNAB is the better choice

If you want a hands-on method and you are willing to revisit your categories every month, YNAB is hard to beat. It is also the stronger option if you want to budget with the money you already have in hand. Its trial is long enough to find out whether the method clicks for you.

Where Wasly fits

Wasly does not ask you to assign every dollar. You set a monthly budget, add the bills you pay, and set goals with target dates. Wasly then shows whether each goal is on pace and what the monthly amount would be to catch up. Everyday spending you won't itemize is one recurring line, not forty categories.

The other half of Wasly is the household itself: the car registration that expires, the filters to replace, the lease renewal, the folder of warranties. If your money questions are really about what is coming due and whether you can afford it, that half does more for you than a stricter budget would.

A fair way to choose

Ask yourself whether you want to manage a budget or be told when something needs attention. Managing is YNAB's strength. Being told is what Wasly is built for. You can look at the second option in the demo in a couple of minutes, then decide whether to start YNAB's trial anyway.
