A budget app that does not link to your bank: what you give up and what you keep

Most budgeting apps start by asking for your bank login or sending you through a connection screen. Wasly does not. It never asks for your bank credentials and does not use bank-linking or account-aggregation services. Everything in a household is something you or another member typed in. For some people that is a dealbreaker, which is fair. Here is the honest version of the trade.

What you give up

Transactions do not appear on their own. If you want a record of every purchase, you will be typing them, and that gets old. There is no automatic categorization, no live balance, and no catching a charge you forgot about. If those are the reasons you want a budgeting app, a connected one is the better tool.

What you keep

Your bank login stays with your bank. There is no connection that can break or need reconnecting. You also decide how detailed the picture is. Wasly is designed around the amounts you plan with: rent, insurance, the monthly bills, and one line for everyday spending you do not want to itemize.

That smaller set of numbers is what answers the questions most households have. Is the down payment fund on pace? What is due this month? How many months would the emergency fund last? You can answer those from a few dozen lines, not a few thousand transactions.

Who it suits

  • People who do not want a third party holding a connection to their accounts.
  • Couples who plan around bills and goals more than around individual purchases.
  • Households that also want reminders for maintenance, renewals, and documents in the same place.

It does not suit anyone who wants to review last week's spending line by line. We would rather say that plainly than lose you in a month.

How to find out

The demo shows a full sample household you can click through, including what the plan looks like with a handful of recurring entries. If entering amounts yourself sounds tolerable after that, look at the plans. If it doesn't, a connected app such as the ones we compare in Wasly vs Monarch Money is a better fit, and we would rather you pick that.
